- PLANT HEALTH CARE - It is a known fact that plants not only provide beauty, but a value to our homes. Preaus Landscape’s Plant Health Care Programs are designed to protect and enhance your growing investment. Tyler Cook, Plant Health Care Manager, says “Understanding plant health is similar to understanding your own health. Like us, plants grow under optimum conditions.” Plant Health Care begins by selecting the right plant for the right location and soil conditions. “Once planted it is your responsibility to make sure the plants’ basic needs are met. Our Maintenance Programs can do all that for you by providing Insect & Disease Control, Fertilization and Monthly Monitoring of both trees and landscape plantings.” Tyler further states “Regular inspections will ensure plant vigor, health and beauty.
Fertilization: Proper fertilization is one of the most important jobs
that we can perform in our yards this spring. A fertilizer supplies the
necessary nutrients that allows plants to grow more efficiently. Just as a healthy diet makes us strong and keeps us
fit, the right amounts of fertilizer will keep your plants healthy and strong. Understanding fertilizers is not so difficult as it may
first appear. All fertilizers list three numbers on the bag. Those numbers
relate to the amounts of N-P-K (the major plant nutrients) that it contains.
Simply put; N stands for Nitrogen, which is the main nutrient for new, green
growth. P is for Phosphorous, which does several things. It promotes top growth,
root growth and stimulates flower bud development. K is for Potassium, which
when deficient contributes to leaf margin dieback, formation of leaf spots
resembling fungal infections, plus reduced winter hardiness. Many fertilizers
contain small amounts of minor nutrients which are also essential for optimum
growth. There are
many different ways to fertilize plants and dozens of types of fertilizers that
are available - liquid, organic, granular and slow-release, to name a few -
which can lead to some confusion. Plus, the improper use and disposal of
fertilizers can harm our environment. So, why not make it easy on yourself and let our
professional staff analyze your soil and prepare a fertilizer program customized for your plants’ needs.
